UK-based artist, INSA, is recognised globally for his technical complexity and innovation, creating groundbreaking works of street art across the globe, breaking world records and manifesting his own independent union.
An important facet of INSA’s practice is his experimental approach with new media and in 2010 when social media began to dominate the way people viewed art, INSA developed ‘GIF-ITI’, a practice the artist invented when he began to create the first ever GIF animations of graffiti work. A meticulous and labour-intensive process - requiring the artist to repaint entire walls by hand several times, photography and documenting each frame. The ephemeral nature of his GIF-ITI murals is deliberate as their animated digital incarnations live on for eternity online. As the technology of AR began to improve INSA seamlessly integrated this into his work by independently creating the GIF-ITI VEIWER APP which suddenly allowed people to view his moving paintings back on the street . INSA moved his physical murals to the digital dimension long before the current hype around crypto art.
INSA has independently built a veritable brand which encompasses furniture and clothing design to custom cars and much more. From public installations to giant works filmed from space, and large scale commercial projects, works often only appear in very limited editions, or for a short amount of time, showing the artist’s continued interest in confounding concepts of time and space, the way in which we process and consume, and the transience of objects.
